I was going to go to the place that’s the best in the world that is in my backyard.Speaker 2:The first person I spoke to was Michaela, and I’m talking to her and I’m saying, this lady’s good. She knows how to talk to me and calm me down.Speaker 3:All the staff understands what you’re going through. And because of that, their culture is solely focused on helping cancer patients get better. Speaker 1:Going into that experience, you know they’re going to be rock stars throughout the journey because they’ve seen it all. Speaker 4:And they take into account other aspects of my life because this is all they do. And they’re so incredibly good at it.Speaker 5:They’re not just specialists in cancer, they become specialists in you. Speaker 1:I proved to be a really tough nut, so they had to reach into the toolbox and go into trial treatments, which is a perfect example of being very specific to my type of cancer.Speaker 4:As a result of tailoring a treatment that worked for me, I was able to fulfill my dream of becoming a mom. And now we have the same thing, cancer.Greg:Mine’s leukemia, his is B-cell lymphoma. I was diagnosed two years after he was.George:When I walked into the doctor’s office, he says, “George, I just saw you two weeks ago.”Greg:I says, “I’m not George. I’m Greg. I’m his twin brother.”George:Dana Farber Brigham is a phenomenal place because they treat all kinds of cancer. They cater the care for you, for your type of cancer. They ask me about my everyday life and what I’m doing, the stresses I’m going through. They make you feel at ease.Greg:Cancer’s cancer. Mine’s unique to me. And his is unique to him, even though we do have a lot in common. We look alike, we act alike, we have the same jobs, but we are two individual people. Video Transcript Karen:I was at work and I developed this incredible pain on the left side of my body and I was rushed to the local hospital for what they thought was a gallbladder attack. But as they did a CT scan, it unraveled that I had a cyst the size of an orange on my ovary. I had stage three ovarian cancer. I knew I was going to go to Dana-Farber Brigham.Karen:All they do is cancer. So going into that experience, you know they’re going to be on the cutting edge of therapies, they’re going to have things available to you, and they’re going to be rock stars throughout the journey because they’ve seen it all.Karen:By being there, I was afforded the opportunity to have a trial that put me into remission, which is pretty unheard of for my diagnosis.Karen:It’s like family. It’s like they know you so incredibly well and they understand the journey you’ve been through, and to see the thrill in their faces to know that all their hard work has resulted in my success. Video Transcript Lucy:Having leukemia at such a young age, you can’t help but think of why this is happening to you.But once I was actually admitted into Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center, I realized the care that I was getting, they were just so on top of it.They listened to me.They listened to my family.Everyone was so nice.The whole team that’s around you in order to help you succeed is what made me want to be a nurse. Understanding that the potential effects of treatment could one day impact my ability to have my own family was in some ways more devastating than hearing the words, you have cancer. My next step was making an appointment to go to Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center. I was able to receive a chemotherapy regimen that at the time wasn’t being offered elsewhere. Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center was the only place that had knowledge of this new research. I was able to fulfill my dream of becoming a mom. Yeah, I have three beautiful girls.There are no words.
