Our network FEATURED CITY Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia An ICLEI Member since January 2025, the City of Kuala Lumpur is Malaysia’s capital, serving as a cultural, financial, tourism, political, and economic hub. Under the leadership of Datuk Seri TPr Dr. Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur and former Executive Director of UN-Habitat, who serves as an advisor to the ICLEI Global Executive Committee, the city is taking a comprehensive approach to sustainability, aiming to become a leader in green growth and community well-being. These priorities are embedded in the Kuala Lumpur Climate Action Plan 2050, which focuses on strengthening resilience, reducing carbon emissions, and fostering inclusivity. As part of the ICLEI Network, Kuala Lumpur has already been engaged in several key initiatives, including the 100% Renewables Cities and Regions Network, the Global Protocol for Community-Scale GHG Emissions Inventories, and the carbonn Climate Registry / CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System. Through these efforts, the city is advancing its climate commitments, accelerating renewable energy adoption, reducing emissions, and using data-driven approaches to enhance urban sustainability.
