Read Review 4A Games Celebrates Metro Franchise's 15th Anniversary, Hint at Direction of Next Title Press Release by T0@st Today, 14:14 Discuss (0 Comments) Hello everyone, we shared with you—earlier this month—that we wanted to tell you more about the status of our team and our future; so what better opportunity to do so as a celebration of Metro's 15th anniversary. In honor of the incredible 15 years of Metro, we've created a video to celebrate our journey throughout the tunnels of the metro system, made possible by our devoted community—always supporting us along the way. This is our thanks to you, the players. Metro turns 15 The legacy and success of Metro over the past decade and a half is something we at 4A Games are incredibly proud of. It actually started 20 years ago when 4A Games was founded, and inspired by Dmitry Glukhovsky's then online novel, we began to work on our inaugural title of the same name, Metro 2033. Our partnership has continued, and he is working with us on our next Metro title, but more on that later. Many of the development team here at 4A Games have seen Metro evolve over the past 15 years. It is amazing to see the advancement from the pages of a novel, into a fully-realized game, through ever-improving sequels, and now into a global franchise with millions of players. We have loved being able to grow and foster an incredible community which has gone from strength to strength along with us. What we are achieving now was a far distant dream all those many years ago, and we are lucky to have so many dedicated, talented developers who are as passionate about the series as you, the players. Read full story LG Develops Custom "EXAONE Deep" State of The Art Reasoning AI Model by AleksandarK Today, 14:04 Discuss (1 Comment) LG AI Research, yes, that LG, which develops consumer electronics, has launched EXAONE Deep, a high-performance reasoning AI that demonstrates exceptional capabilities in mathematical logic, scientific concepts, and programming challenges despite its relatively small parameter count. The flagship 32B model achieves performance metrics rivaling substantially larger models like GPT-4o and DeepSeek R1. In contrast, the 7.8B and 2.4B variants establish new benchmarks in the lightweight and on-device AI categories. The EXAONE Deep 32B model registered a 94.5 score on the CSAT 2025 Mathematics section and 90.0 on the AIME 2024, outperforming competing models while requiring only 5% of the computational resources of larger alternatives like DeepSeek-R1 (671B). In scientific reasoning, it achieved a 66.1 score on the GPQA Diamond test, which evaluates PhD-level problem-solving capabilities across physics, chemistry, and biology. The model's 83.0 score on MMLU establishes it as the highest-performing domestically developed model in South Korea, showing LG's approach to creating efficient, high-performance AI systems. Particularly notable is the performance of the smaller variants: the 7.8B model scored 94.8 in MATH-500 and 59.6 in AIME 2025, while the 2.4B model achieved 92.3 in MATH-500 and 47.9 in AIME 2024. These results position EXAONE Deep's smaller models at the top of their respective categories across all major benchmarks, suggesting significant potential for deployment in resource-constrained environments. With sizes of up to 32 billion parameters, it will excel in single-GPU deployments. Interestingly, these models can run on a range of discrete GPUs, laptop GPUs, and some edge systems that don't have massive computational power. Tencent Will Launch Hunyuan T1 Inference Model on March 21 by T0@st Today, 13:59 Discuss (0 Comments) Tencent's large language model (LLM) specialist division has announced the imminent launch of their T1 AI inference model. The Chinese technology giant's Hunyuan social media accounts revealed a grand arrival, scheduled to take place on Friday (March 21). A friendly reminder was issued to interested parties, regarding the upcoming broadcast/showcase: "please set aside your valuable time. Let's step into T1 together." Earlier in the week, the Tencent AI team started to tease their "first ultra-large Mamba-powered reasoning model." Local news reports have highlighted Hunyuan's claim of Mamba architecture being applied losslessly to a super-large Mixture of Experts (MoE) model. Late last month, the company released its Hunyuan Turbo S AI model—advertised as offering faster replies than DeepSeek's R1 system. Tencent's plucky solution has quickly climbed up the Chatbot Arena LLM Leaderboard. The Hunyuan team was in a boastful mood earlier today, and loudly proclaimed that their proprietary Turbo S model had charted in fifteenth place. At the time of writing, DeepSeek R1 is ranked seventh on the leaderboard. As explained by ITHome, this community-driven platform is driven by users interactions: "with multiple models anonymously, voting to decide which model is better, and then generating a ranking list based on the scores. This kind of evaluation is also seen as an arena for big models to compete directly, which is simple and direct." Read full story Analogue 3D Launch Pushed into July, Previously Delayed into Q1 by T0@st Today, 13:00 Discuss (0 Comments) Analogue's modern reimagining of Nintendo's N64 home console has hit another pre-release obstacle. Their Analogue 3D model was first revealed in 2023, with a projected 2024 launch on the cards. The system has experienced a series of setbacks—prior to the latest official announcement, customers were expecting to receive finalized hardware by now (first quarter of 2025). Once again, the company has revised release timeframes for its $249.99 FPGA-powered console—according to an official "3D Preorder FAQ": "Analogue 3D was originally available for pre-order at the end of 2024, (and) scheduled to ship Q1 2025. Shipping is delayed (as of March 18th, 2025) and is now shipping by July 2025. We are working hard to get your 3D order in hands ASAP, and appreciate your patience. If you have an open pre-order no action is needed. As always, if you'd like to cancel your pre-order at any time, Analogue has always had a no questions asked, 100% refund policy for pre-orders." Analogue's promotional materials showcase a very slick-looking premium reinterpretation (in black or white) of the classic N64 system. The R&D team spent: "nearly four years engineering it in FPGA. No more incompatibilities found in software emulation like input lag, graphic/audio inaccuracies, timing/frame rate issues and more. For the first time, you can re-experience the N64 exactly as it was meant to be, without compromise." According to product pages, a controller is not bundled in with the Analogue 3D package. Authentic front panel connectors indicate customers having to reuse original "trident-shaped" N64 (NUS-005) controllers, or third-party equivalents. Certain promo shots show off 8BitDo's recently introduced 64 Bluetooth Controller. Given Analogue's revised schedule, this wireless gamepad is expected to arrive weeks ahead of its natural partner piece. Additionally, early January press material teased another top contender: "ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme is also waiting in the wings, with details to be shared on the way to its expected release in the first quarter (of 2025)." As reported by VideoCardz, the Taiwanese manufacturer seems to be readying its mysterious ultra-premium model for an imminent launch. Last week, HWiNFO v8.23-5685 Beta release notes turned up—revealing the existence of "enhanced sensor monitoring on ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme." Concurrently, a smattering of retail/e-tail listings have turned up in Europe. The lowest observed asking price (including VAT) was €1202.80, courtesy of Max ICT's (Netherlands) premature publishing of a product page. Hopping across the Atlantic, industry watchdogs noted that Newegg was demanding a cool $749 for ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Apex pre-orders. Potential European customers will likely be greeted by a ~€827 (inc. VAT) price point. Since January, the Republic of Gamers marketing team has kept quiet on the X870E Extreme front. Their fancily-appointed board is still an unknown quantity in many regards; recent retail leaks lack technical information and visual representation. As noted by VideoCardz, time is running out for a Q1 2025 launch. As we head into April, Q2 looms in the near distance. Read full story NVIDIA Adjusts GeForce RTX 50 Series Pricing in Europe; Slight Reduction Result of Favourable Exchange Rate by T0@st Today, 11:13 Discuss (12 Comments) Graphics card price watchers have highlighted refreshing downward motion in Europe, apparently affecting three out of the four GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards. VideoCardz received a couple of email tip-offs from its pan-European audience, prompting the publication of a short investigative piece. NVIDIA's slight adjustment of official pricing for GeForce RTX 5090, RTX 5080, and RTX 5070 models is the result of a strengthened Euro. The US dollar's value has dropped by roughly 3.9 %; according to recent detective work, focusing on German trends. Team Green's "generous" reductions have arrived roughly two weeks after a stabilization of the USD-EUR exchange rate. Curiously, the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is an outlier here—NVIDIA did not reduce its German guide price (€879 + VAT) for this upper-mid-range offer. A Founders Edition does not exist at this GPU level, so Team Green has tasked its board partners with the creation of so-called "MSRP conformant" alternatives. One of VideoCardz's tipsters has observed various GeForce RTX 50 series models simply "rotting on shelves," due to potential buyers balking at unreasonable retailer-implemented price hikes. NVIDIA's minor changes (4.3 to 4.6 %) are unlikely to make a noticeable impact across the Euro zone. Read full story AMD "Medusa Point" APU with Zen 6 Confirmed to Use RDNA 3.5, RDNA 4 Reserved for Discrete GPUs by AleksandarK Today, 11:11 Discuss (8 Comments) AMD's next-generation Zen 6-based "Medusa Point" mobile APUs will not feature RDNA 4 graphics as previously speculated, according to recent code discoveries in AMD GPUOpen Drivers on GitHub. The Device ID "GfxIp12" associated with RDNA 4 architecture has been reserved for only discrete GPUs, confirming that the current Radeon RX 9000 series will exclusively implement AMD's latest graphics architecture. Current technical documentation indicates AMD will instead extend RDNA 3.5 implementation beyond the Zen 5 portfolio while potentially positioning UDNA as the successor technology for integrated graphics. The chiplet-based Medusa Point design will reportedly pair a single 12-core Zen 6 CCD manufactured on TSMC's 3 nm-class node with a mobile client I/O die likely built on N4P. This arrangement is significantly different from current monolithic mobile solutions. Earlier speculation indicates the Medusa Point platform may support 3D V-Cache variants, leveraging the same vertical stacking methodology employed in current Zen 5 implementations. The mobile processor's memory controllers and neural processing unit are expected to receive substantial updates. However, compatibility limitations with AMD's latest graphics features, like FSR 4 technology, remain a concern due to the absence of RDNA 4 silicon. The Zen 6-powered Medusa Point processor family is scheduled for release in 2026, targeting premium mobile computing applications with a performance profile that builds upon AMD's current Strix Halo positioning. Read full story AMD Reportedly Sold Over 200,000 Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT GPUs by AleksandarK Today, 04:36 Discuss (56 Comments) AMD's Radeon RX 9000 series of GPUs spent just a few days on the retail market, and they are already sold out. If you are wondering just how many have been sold, AMD has a number for you. According to the information shared at the AI PC Innovation Summit in Beijing, AMD claims that it has sold as many as 200,000 Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards in the first wave. Current retail channels show severely constrained inventory for AMD's latest GPUs, though supply chain forecasts indicate normalization expected by early Q2. Board partners have implemented significant price premiums across their custom-designed variants, with RX 9070 XT models commanding up to $200 above AMD's reference pricing structure. While AMD has issued statements advocating for adherence to suggested retail figures, the company maintains a hands-off approach to partner pricing strategies, acknowledging the market dynamics of premium component allocation. The initial allocation bottleneck should resolve as manufacturing capacity scales to meet demand, potentially stabilizing both availability and price points by mid-April. Yeston, one of AMD's longest-standing AIBs, has suggested that "now the supply is unstable, but we will restock every week. Please don't be frustrated if you didn't get it. The supply will become stable and continue to be available after April." However, we still don't understand how AMD is counting these sales. The company noted that the first wave has been sold, and that is likely their first shipment of Navi 48 SKU from TSMC. When TSMC ships more chips, AMD distributes them to its AIB partners for assembly. That could be the second wave. As these GPUs are ordered months in advance, AMD's AIBs are likely already shipping the next wave of GPUs to retail stores. Read full story Respawn Entertainment & Bit Reactor to Showcase "Star Wars Turn-based Tactics Game" on April 19 by T0@st Yesterday, 16:33 Discuss (6 Comments) Back in January 2022, Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm Games announced a new "Star Wars strategy game." Press material revealed a production collaboration between Respawn Entertainment and Bit Reactor. The latter party was described as a: "newly formed studio, helmed by games industry veteran Greg Foerstch (ex-Firaxis Games). Respawn will produce the new Star Wars strategy game while Bit Reactor leads on the development of the title." EA's PR piece did not go into major detail, given the very early nature of the generically monikered strategy project. In the interim, Bit Reactor has spent just over three years of production time on their mystery title. Last Friday, the official Star Wars website published a schedule for next month's Celebration LIVE! Japan event. Eagle-eyed journos and fans soon noticed an intriguing entry, titled: "Bit Reactor Developer Panel featuring Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games." The April 19 early Saturday evening slot—4:30PM to 5:30PM, Live on the Galaxy Stage—will be dedicated to a "first look at a new Star Wars turn-based tactics game." According to reports from last summer, Greg Foerstch and fourteen other former Firaxis team members are involved in the making of the EA/Lucasfilm's unnamed Star Wars turn-based IP. Interestingly, a Bit Reactor 2024 blog post goes to great lengths in explaining that there is more to their internal makeup than being mere "XCOM" veterans. The scope of Respawn Entertainment's involvement is not clear, but Vince Zampella's studio is primarily working on an untitled Star Wars Jedi: Survivor sequel. Earlier on in March, an ex-employee leak indicated the unfortunate cancelation of an unannounced first-person shooter game. Industry watchdogs believe that the now dissolved Respawn "new game incubation team" was tasked with the creation of a Titanfall multiplayer prototype. As part of the in-game Codex, this feature offers players carefully selected encyclopedic entries on the history, art, and culture of the Azuchi-Momoyama period. This cultural encyclopedia was written by historians and includes images from museums and institutions. Similar to the History of Baghdad feature in Assassin's Creed Mirage, Cultural Discovery will be integrated into the main game of Assassin's Creed Shadows, and is tied to player progression. Cultural Discovery contains almost two times as many entries as the History of Baghdad, with more than 125 entries at launch, and more to come. As players visit sites that provide a historical and cultural exploration of 16th-century Japan, they will unlock articles on the economy, castles, military affairs, daily life, historical figures, and events. One notable cultural codex entry, shown above, features an exclusive replica of a Kabuto, or Japanese war helmet, that symbolizes the first contact between Japan and Spain. The original Kabuto is part of one of the oldest collections of Japanese armor in Europe, and is kept at the Royal Armory in Madrid. This Kabuto had been almost entirely damaged during the fire suffered by the Royal Armory on July 10, 1884. Ubisoft, Patrimonio Nacional, and Spanish company Factum Arte joined forces to recover what was left of this Feudal Japan relic, create a faithful physical reconstruction of it, and make it accessible to people around the world through its inclusion in Assassin's Creed Shadows. The physical replica from Factum Arte will become part of the Royal Armory of Madrid's collection. Read full story Apple "A20" SoC Linked to TSMC "N3P" Process, AI Aspect Reportedly Improved with Advanced Packaging Tech by T0@st Yesterday, 15:28 Discuss (6 Comments) Over a year ago, industry watchdogs posited that Apple was patiently waiting in line at the front of TSMC's 2 Nanometer GAA "VVIP queue." The securing of cutting-edge manufacturing processes seems to be a consistent priority for the Cupertino, California-headquartered fabless chip designer. Current generation Apple chipsets—at best—utilize TSMC 3 nm (N3E) wafers. Up until very recently, many insiders believed that the projected late 2026 launch of A20 SoC-powered iPhone 18 smartphones would signal a transition to the Taiwanese foundry's advanced 2 nm (N2) node process. Officially, TSMC has roadmapped the start of 2 nm mass production around the second half of 2025. According to Jeff Pu—a Hong Kong-based analyst at GF Securities—the speculated A20 (2026) chipset could stick with N3P. Leaks suggest that aspects of Apple's next in line "A19" and "A19 Pro" mobile SoCs could be produced via a 3 nm TSMC process. MacRumors has picked up on additional inside track whispers; about Apple M5 processors (for next-gen iPad Pro models) being based on N3P—"likely due to increased wafer costs." Pu reckons that Apple's engineering team has provisioned a major generational improvement with A20's AI capabilities, courtesy of TSMC's Chip on Wafer on Substrate (CoWoS) packaging technology. This significant upgrade is touted to tighten integration between the chip's processor, unified memory, and Neural Engine segments. Revised insider forecasts have positioned A21 chip designs as natural candidates for a shift into 2 nm GAA territories. Read full story ASUS Introduces New "AI Cache Boost" BIOS Feature - R&D Team Claims Performance Uplift Press Release by T0@st Yesterday, 14:38 Discuss (8 Comments) Large language models (LLMs) love large quantities of memory—so much so, in fact, that AI enthusiasts are turning to multi-GPU setups to make even more VRAM available for their AI apps. But since many current LLMs are extremely large, even this approach has its limits. At times, the GPU will decide to make use of CPU processing power for this data, and when it does, the performance of your CPU cache and DRAM comes into play. All this means that when it comes to the performance of AI applications, it's not just the GPU that matters, but the entire pathway that connects the GPU to the CPU to the I/O die to the DRAM modules. It stands to reason, then, that there are opportunities to boost AI performance by optimizing these elements. That's exactly what we've found as we've spent time in our R&D labs with the latest AMD Ryzen CPUs. AMD just launched two new Ryzen CPUs with AMD 3D V-Cache Technology, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D, pushing the series into new performance territory. After testing a wide range of optimizations in a variety of workloads, we uncovered a range of settings that offer tangible benefits for AI enthusiasts. Now, we're ready to share these optimizations with you through a new BIOS feature: AI Cache Boost. Available through an ASUS AMD 800 Series motherboard and our most recent firmware update, AI Cache Boost can accelerate performance up to 12.75% when you're working with massive LLMs. Read full story Veteran CoD Producer Confirms Founding of Dark Outlaw Games; Sony Staffing Up New First-Party Studio by T0@st Yesterday, 14:23 Discuss (0 Comments) Jason Blundell—a veteran producer (at Treyarch) of many entries in the highly popular Call of Duty (CoD) franchise—has confirmed the founding of a new video game development studio: Dark Outlaw Games. This fledgling outfit started operations under the umbrella of Sony Interactive Studios (SIE). In an interview conducted by Jeff Gerstmann—a well-liked video game journalist—Blundell disclosed a very fortunate (early days) situation: "it's such a privilege to be able to do it with Sony as a new first-party studio...Sony doesn't set up first-party studios all the time. To have that privilege is humbling, it's really nice. I'm really excited." Industry whispers previously pointed to the "circa late 2023/early 2024" formation of an unnamed first-person shooter specialist team at PlayStation Studios, comprised of Jason Blundell and other ex-members of Deviation Games. This older organization started off back in 2020, under Blundell and Dave Anthony's direction—by June 2021, SIE announced an exciting partnership with Deviation Games. This "second-party" collaboration pointed to a new intellectual property destined for launch on Sony's market leading PlayStation 5 home console. In 2022, Blundell left Deviation under mysterious circumstances. The Los Angeles, California-based studio would eventually limp to a disappointing end in 2024; with no finalized product released. The eventual founding of Dark Outlaw Games is a point of curiosity, given Sony Corporation's widespread gutting of staff headcounts across first-party studios in early 2024. As revealed to Gerstmann during their bonus podcast episode appearance, the seasoned CoD vet outlined current project conditions: "staffing up (and) keeping it kind of 'low key' as the team develops its game...We're getting the team to jell, getting the ideas clicking—I'm a programmer at heart, so let's test those assumptions: Is it working? You're trying to escape velocity." The growing Dark Outlaw team has busied itself with an unannounced project. Blundell described a secretive approach—rushing in with a premature unveiling would not be appropriate at this point in time. He elaborated: "(Dark Outlaw Games) has worked away in the shadows for a while, and when we've got something to talk about, we'll step out into the light...But, you know the story for me is about the game, not about the studio...so the reason why we're not doing a fanfare or shout about it from the rooftops is like, let's get something, right?" These cards are based on the latest GeForce "Blackwell" graphics architecture, and the three chips the company already launched on it. Leading the pack, is the RTX PRO 6000, a card that completely maxes out the massive "GB202" silicon, featuring more shaders than even the GeForce RTX 5090, albeit at lower clock speeds. The idea behind this product is to give pro-vis users more shader power, driving a large amount of GDDR7 ECC memory. Specifically, the card comes with 24,064 CUDA cores across all 192 SM physically present on the silicon, besides 768 Tensor cores, 192 RT cores, 768 TMUs, and 192 ROPs. The card gets a humungous 96 GB of ECC GDDR7 memory across the chip's 512-bit wide memory interface, probably using 48 Gbit density memory chips. The card has a TGP of 600 W, making out the 12V2x6 power input. It comes with a board design resembling the RTX 5090. Next up, is the RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Max-Q. This card has essentially the same core-configuration as the RTX PRO 6000, but with a reduced TGP, and a simpler 2-slot board design that uses a lateral-blower. This card is meant for machines with multiple such cards installed, though something that isn't quite a rendering server. Lastly, there's the RTX PRO 6000 Server Edition. This card, again, has identical core-config to the others in the lineup, but with a board design optimized for rackmount servers and large rendering farms. The cooler relies on the rack's airflow for cooling. Read full story PNY Adds "Plus" Size Options to GeForce RTX 5070 Ti "Triple Fan" Lineup by T0@st Yesterday, 13:11 Discuss (1 Comment) PNY officially introduced its launch lineup of GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards at CES 2025; all brand-new offerings were plainly labelled as "Triple Fan" models. Yesterday, VideoCardz alerted its readership to the emergence of "Plus" variants—all utilizing upper-mid-range NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5070 Ti "Blackwell" GPU. In recent times, several of Team Green's board partners have stealthily added new products to web presences without any PR fanfare accompaniment. Last week, ZOTAC quietly expanded its SOLID GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti product ranges with "slimmer" CORE options. PNY's four freshest additions are dubbed "Triple Fan Plus"—quite fittingly, this updated moniker refers to larger card dimensions. Price and launch information was not available at the time of writing, but we can safely assume that their GeForce RTX 5070 Ti ARGB Triple Fan Plus OC SKU will sit at the top of the American AIB's resized pack. A non-overclocked ARGB-lit model is present on TPU's GPU database, alongside non-ARGB OC and standard variants. PNY's Triple Fan Plus shroud design is a chunky unit; VideoCardz noted growth (over vanilla variants) in two dimensions—gaining 1.7 cm in width, and roughly 3 cm in length. The already released Triple Fan housing officially occupied "2.8"-slots, but the larger "Plus" sibling is a proper 3-slot space filler. VideoCardz highlighted revised retail packaging—instead of a simple side-printed "GeForce RTX" logo, Plus boxes are adorned with a full GPU readout: "GeForce RTX 5070 Ti." The newer shroud design seems to sport shinier black accents, and wider ARGB lighting channels. Read full story Samsung Reportedly Partnered Up with Palantir to Improve Chip Production Yields by T0@st Yesterday, 12:11 Discuss (4 Comments) According to The Korea Economic Daily, an unlikely alliance—involving Samsung Electronics and Palantir Technologies—was formed at the end of last year. Late last week, insiders posited that the South Korean megacorporation's Foundry business was going through troubled times. It is not clear whether the assistance provided by Palantir's AI-infused suite has produced pleasing results chez Samsung's flagship production hubs, but insiders reckon that utilization of the software started just before Christmas. Local media outlets view this unusual pairing as a "gamble"—reportedly, the new-ish initiative has targeted an improved "semiconductor yield (ratio of good products in total production), quality, and productivity." The Samsung Foundry appears to be going "all-in" with its 2 nm GAA node process; industry moles picked up on signals transmitted by an alleged special "task force (TF)." This elite team is reportedly entrusted with a challenging two-pronged goal; get 2 nm GAA over the finish line by late 2025, alongside the (connected) finalization of a much-rumored "Exynos 2600" mobile chipset. The Korea Economic Daily news article mentions the expansion of a "Samsung DS Division AI Center" back in December (2025), but falls short of labelling this department as the aforementioned "special task force." Despite a previous reluctance to share sensitive data with external companies, the latest report suggests a significant change in strategy. Further details were disclosed: "(Samsung's) collaboration with Palantir is handled by the DS Division AI Center...The AI Center is an organization that merged the DS Division Innovation Center and SAIT (formerly Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology) AI Center, and is developing DS Division-specific technologies using AI, advancing development software, building AI platforms, and controlling and advancing facilities and infrastructure." Around late February, industry inside trackers predicted continued "smooth" progress with the 2 nm GAA node. Samsung Foundry's fully upgraded "S2" mass production line is expected to come online by Q4 2025. Lenovo Shows Custom Legion GeForce RTX 5090D and RTX 5080 Graphics Cards by AleksandarK Yesterday, 11:33 Discuss (6 Comments) Lenovo has listed two custom Legion GPUs designed specifically for its Legion 9000K gaming systems. These models—the RTX 5090D and RTX 5080—are available exclusively in the Chinese market and are not intended for the DIY segment. The "D" designation in the RTX 5090D model signifies that the component adheres to specific regulatory standards required in China, hence Lenovo choosing it for their China-exclusive systems. Both GPUs incorporate a cooling solution that spans four expansion slots and utilizes three fans, complemented by CNC-machined metal shrouds and full backplates. While detailed parameters such as core and memory clock speeds have not been disclosed, the two models differ in their GPU architectures: the RTX 5090D is built around the larger GB202 die, and the RTX 5080 uses the smaller GB203 silicon. Both cards employ a single 16-pin power connector and are expected to operate at standard factory settings without factory overclocking dialed in yet. But with a massive cooler configuration, it should be an easy thing to do. Regarding computational capability, the RTX 5090D delivers up to 2,375 TOPS, supporting gaming tasks and localized AI processing. These GPUs are integrated within systems powered by Intel's Core Ultra 200K series processors. System configurations start at 22,499 RMB (approximately $3,100) for units featuring the RTX 5080 paired with a Core Ultra 7 265K processor and 32 GB of RAM. In contrast, configurations with the RTX 5090D, Core Ultra 9 285K processor, and 64 GB of RAM are priced at 41,999 RMB (roughly $5,820). Lenovo has also indicated that mid-range RTX 5070 variants are planned for future releases and that final production units may vary slightly from the initial promotional renders of these cards. AMD and board partners held a special RDNA 4 kick-off event in Beijing at the end of February, roughly twelve hours in advance of their international presentation. According to VideoCardz, initial supplies of Yeston's Sakura and Sakura Atlantis graphics cards were snapped up quickly by regional customers. The Chinese AIB specializes in brightly-hued shroud and backplate designs, often decorated with "waifu" illustrations and miscellaneous cute graphics. Unfortunately, interested parties from abroad are limited to importing from local retail platforms. Yeston's social media accounts have alerted potential customers to re-stocks and connected developments—their latest bulletin hints about an improved situation, following another swift depletion of refreshed stock: "hello everyone! Thank you for the support! We have received a lot of messages and would love to inform you now the supply is unstable, but we will restock every week. Please don't be frustrated if you didn't get it. The supply will become stable and continue to be available after April." Interestingly, this morning's message did not touch upon the controversial topic of price hikes. At launch, Yeston's latest Navi 48 GPU-based offerings conformed or floated just above Team Red baseline MSRP (including VAT)—4999 RMB (~$686 USD) for XT, 4499 RMB (~$617 USD) for non-XT—likely boosting demand around that time. Last week, AMD board partners in Japan expressed concerns about current supply constraints—GPU market share in that region had climbed to ~45%, due to the popularity of RX 9070 Series graphics cards. Team Red could lose ground if GPU allocation limitations continue. All 3 CPU coolers have the same base specifications with the main differences in the cooling fans, the exterior coating and the additional digital display panel. Measuring 157 mm in height, they feature four Ø6 mm copper direct contact heat pipes, two 120 mm fans and an aluminium fins radiator capable of achieving up to 250 W TDP. As mentioned, one of the features that differentiate the 3 versions is the fans. The Digital ARGB and Digital versions use Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) fans, while the basic model uses Hydro Dynamic Bearing (HDB) fans. Moreover, the two 120 mm fans have slightly different characteristics in the "Digital" versions: one has 600-1600 RPM speed with up to 69.63 CFM and a maximum noise of 25 dB(A), while the second fan has a speed of 600-1400 RPM with up to 56.53 CFM and 23.5 dBA (Max). The ETS-T41 uses the more economical option with two identical 120 mm fans at 600~1600 RPM speed with up to 69.63 CFM and a maximum noise of 25 dB(A). Another feature is the digital panel that monitors and displays CPU and GPU temperatures or fan speeds. Read full story Vietnam to Begin First Wafer Fab Construction, Eyes Semiconductor Leadership in the Coming Decade by AleksandarK Yesterday, 05:06 Discuss (1 Comment) Vietnam's government has approved its first wafer fab facility, with an investment of 12.8 trillion VND (approximately $500 million). The first phase of the facility, scheduled for completion by 2030, is designed to manufacture specialized chips for defense, AI, and other high-tech applications. The project will receive government backing through direct funding—covering up to 30% of the total investment, capped at 10 trillion VND—and tax incentives. A special steering committee headed by the Prime Minister has been tasked with overseeing the project's execution and resource allocation. The new fab is a critical component of Vietnam's long-term semiconductor strategy, a phased approach toward building a domestic ecosystem for chip design, manufacturing, and testing. The current investment is modest compared to the typical costs of advanced wafer fabs, which can reach up to $50 billion. Nonetheless, the project is a foundational, one-step-at-the-time move intended to spur further investments and technology transfer. Vietnamese officials have reportedly engaged in discussions with major international chip manufacturers—including US, South Korea, and Taiwan entities, such as GlobalFoundries and Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp—to explore potential collaborative opportunities. Vietnam already hosts 174 semiconductor-related projects, predominantly focused on chip packaging and testing, in which global companies like Intel and Amkor have established significant operations. The second phase, from 2030-2040, envisions Vietnam emerging as a worldwide center for electronics and semiconductors. By expanding to at least 200 design companies, establishing two semiconductor chip manufacturing plants, and creating 15 packaging and testing facilities, the country intends to gradually develop independent semiconductor product design and production capabilities. Read full story Google Teams up with MediaTek for Next-Generation TPU v7 Design by AleksandarK Yesterday, 04:26 Discuss (2 Comments) According to Reuters, citing The Information, Google will collaborate with MediaTek to develop its seventh-generation Tensor Processing Unit (TPU), which is also known as TPU v7. Google maintains its existing partnership with Broadcom despite the new MediaTek collaboration. The AI accelerator is scheduled for production in 2026, and TSMC is handling manufacturing duties. Google will lead the core architecture design while MediaTek manages I/O and peripheral components, as Economic Daily News reports. This differs from Google's ongoing relationship with Broadcom, which co-develops core TPU architecture. The MediaTek partnership reportedly stems from the company's strong TSMC relationship and lower costs compared to Broadcom. There is also a possibility that MediaTek could design inference-focused TPU v7 chips while Broadcom focuses on training architecture. Nonetheless, the development of TPU is a massive market as Google is using so many chips that it could use a third company, hypothetically. The development of TPU continues Google's vertical integration strategy for AI infrastructure. Google reduces dependency on NVIDIA hardware by designing proprietary AI chips for internal R&D and cloud operations. At the same time, competitors like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta rely heavily on NVIDIA's processors for AI training and inference. At Google's scale, serving billions of queries a day, designing custom chips makes sense from both financial and technological sides. As Google develops its own specific workloads, translating that into hardware acceleration is the game that Google has been playing for years now. Read full story China Dedicates $55 Billion for Semiconductor, AI, and Quantum Computing Development in 2025 by AleksandarK Yesterday, 03:50 Discuss (4 Comments) China's Ministry of Finance has allocated $55 billion (¥398.12 billion) for science and technology funding in 2025, marking a 10% increase from the previous year's $50 billion (¥361.9 billion). This expenditure now stands as the nation's third-largest budget item, following only national defense and debt interest payments. The 2024 allocation achieved a 97.6% implementation rate, indicating effective deployment of resources in the technology sector. The funding prioritizes initiatives under the "Science and Technology Innovation 2030" program, with significant investments targeting semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing research. Rather than stimulating immediate breakthroughs, the incremental funding increase aims to strengthen existing projects and enhance technological self-reliance amid global competition. This strategy shows some fiscal constraints imposed by China's economic slowdown while maintaining the country's long-term technological objectives. Supplementary measures bolster direct R&D investment, including enhanced support for fundamental research and specialized financing mechanisms for technology-focused enterprises. Tax reductions and targeted subsidies form part of a comprehensive policy framework designed to foster domestic innovation capabilities. While the funding increase shows commitment to technological advancement, effective project management and efficient resource allocation will be critical success factors, mainly as China competes more globally. Perhaps the most important milestone for this aid package will be supporting the development of advanced lithography tools to make sure that domestic companies can manufacture cutting-edge silicon. Read full story Razer Blade 16 with GeForce RTX 5060 Mobile GPU Spotted in Leaked Doc, MSRP: $1999 by T0@st Monday, 17:15 Discuss (8 Comments) Officially, NVIDIA has only revealed mobile variants of its GeForce RTX 50 "Blackwell" GPU series going down to RTX 5070. At CES 2025, Jensen Huang's keynote presentation proposed a $1299 entry point for GB206-equipped gaming laptops—rated up to 800 AI TOPS. As demonstrated by recent market trends, "MSRP" recommendations are widely viewed as whimsical recommendations (at best). Pre-orders for upper crust to mid-range GeForce RTX 50-series laptops opened up on February 25, but the missing ROP (Raster Operations Pipeline) problem has seemingly spread to Blackwell's mobile offshoot. Reports suggest that necessary investigations have pushed initial customer-bound deliveries into April. Presumably, unannounced lower end products—in GeForce RTX 5060 and RTX 5050 Mobile form—are similarly delayed. Earlier today, momomo_us—a notable source of pre-launch information—unearthed an alleged "Razer-authored" new product document. The American-Singaporean brand appears to be preparing a multitude of Razer Blade 16 (2025) SKUs, with a series identified as "RZ09-0528." The leaked MSRP guide contains a major error; Razer's forthcoming flagship model—powered by an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 "Strix Point" APU and GeForce RTX 5090 Mobile GPU—will not arrive at retail/e-tail with a $1499 price tag. Focusing on the opposite end of Razer's chart, VideoCardz highlighted the $1999 OLED-equipped SKU—featuring a Ryzen AI 9 365 processor and Team Green's unannounced GeForce RTX 5060 Mobile GPU. The speculative steep asking price is not a big surprise, given the expected tagging on of Razer "premium tax." Mid-way through last week, "lowly" GeForce RTX 5050-powered laptops were accidentally listed by retail outlets. The cheapest offering was advertised with a $1720 (including VAT) price point—based on these recent (possibly unfinalized) data points, industry watchdogs have predicted steep asking prices for even the most basic of Blackwell mobile options. Read full story ASUS Implements Another GeForce RTX 5090 Price Hike, PRIME RX 9070 XT "MSRP" Adjusted to $719 by T0@st Monday, 16:01 Discuss (26 Comments) "Second wave" ASUS price hikes were documented online over the past weekend; affecting air-cooled premium ROG Astral and mid-tier TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5090 models. Looking at the company's North American webshop, visitors noticed a freshly adjusted price for the ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 32 GB OC Edition—going from a previous level of $3079.99 up to $3359.99. Curiously, the asking price of a liquid-cooled sibling was not adjusted—remaining at a "first wave" point of $3409.99. The "cheapest" model—TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5090 (non-OC)—experienced a $460 (representing 20%) price hike, bringing total cost of ownership up to $2759.99. As a reminder, NVIDIA's baseline MSRP guideline was $1999—as announced at CES 2025—but ROG Astral and TUF Gaming designs demand a premium or two for fancier feature sets. VideoCardz has fervently explored worrying market trends in the recent past; several of NVIDIA's big board partner players have jacked up asking prices for GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards. Availability of stock is still a major sore point for potential buyers, who were not able to secure launch day wares. Despite a driving up of costs, the ASUS US webstore has absolutely zero stock of GeForce RTX 5090 SKUs—at the time of writing. In addition, VideoCardz and other PC hardware media outlets noted price hikes affecting the manufacturer's stable of recently launched AMD Radeon RX 9070 Series TUF Gaming and PRIME models. In the absence of AMD-built (MBA) reference card designs, board partners were tasked with the providing of baseline "MSRP" conformant custom cards. The ASUS PRIME Radeon RX 9070 XT OC and RX 9070 OC Editions were readied as $599 and $549 options (respectively). Weekend sleuthing work put the spotlight on newly adjusted price points of $719.99 and $659.99 (respectively)—representing further cases of plain 20% elevations over baseline. AMD's debut batch of RDNA 4 cards was met with unprecedented demand earlier on in March, but secondary/tertiary stock shipments face unclear market conditions—Team Red GPU enthusiasts have (similarly) voiced their collective displeasure about elevated prices at retail. Mid-way through last week, the PC hardware community heard about ASUS leadership considering a new pricing strategy. The company is reportedly accelerating its manufacturing exodus from China. Read full story Huawei/HiSilicon Kirin "X90" SoC Mentioned in Chinese Government Document by T0@st Monday, 14:39 Discuss (0 Comments) A mysterious HiSilicon Kirin X90 processor was included in a Chinese state report; the official assessment document seems to cover the topics of native CPU reliability and security. Jukanlosreve—a keen watcher of semiconductor industry inside tracks—highlighted the unannounced technology on social media. They alerted TP Huang (aka tphuang) to this discovery, possibly in reaction to the latter's reporting of a wholly Huawei-designed AI laptop. Last week, we heard about a speculated portable enterprise PC series powered by Kunpeng-920 mobile processors. HiSilicon is a Chinese fabless semiconductor firm, operating under Huawei ownership—normally, their Kirin processors are designated as smartphone-based solutions. Industry watchdogs believe that company leadership is paving the way for a new generation of personal and server processors—their current Kunpeng-900 series debuted back in 2019, so natural successors are very likely in the development pipeline. Early last year, insiders proposed that Huawei had prioritized its Ascend 910B AI accelerator chip—despite these rumors, Kirin-related leaks continued to trickle out. According to industry moles, HiSilicon tends to spread its custom Arm-based Taishan core design across modern Kirin and Kunpeng processor families. Based on Jukanlosreve's initial detective work, Tom's Hardware proposed a plausible outlook for the (leaked) chip's future. Their report theorized: "Huawei's server and PC divisions have been relatively quiet, as evidenced by the lack of new Kunpeng SoC designs. The new Kirin X90, despite its name, could be a possible successor, considering that Huawei is reportedly launching a new 'AI PC' with HarmonyOS next month. It's likely to be fabricated using SMIC's 7 nm process featuring Taishan V120 cores based on either the Armv8 or Armv9 architectures, which are not subject to the US trade ban." Instead of using an old hat Kunpeng-920 SoC, Huawei's forthcoming next-gen "Qingyun" AI laptop could be equipped with a Kirin X90 APU—Tom's Hardware foresees an Apple MacBook-esque "integration of custom hardware and software" with the Chinese tech firm's fully in-house developed model. AMD's Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 Delivers up to 12x AI LLM Performance Compared to Intel's "Lunar Lake" by AleksandarK Monday, 14:13 Discuss (23 Comments) AMD's latest flagship APU, the Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 "Strix Halo," demonstrates some impressive performance advantages over Intel's "Lunar Lake" processors in large language model (LLM) inference workloads, according to recent benchmarks on AMD's blog. Featuring 16 Zen 5 CPU cores, 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units, and over 50 AI TOPS via its XDNA 2 NPU, the processor achieves up to 12.2x faster response times than Intel's Core Ultra 258V in specific LLM scenarios. Notably, Intel's Lunar Lake has four E-cores and four P-cores, which in total is half of the Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 CPU core count, but the performance difference is much more pronounced than the 2x core gap. The performance delta becomes even more notable with model complexity, particularly with 14-billion parameter models approaching the limit of what standard 32 GB laptops can handle. In LM Studio benchmarks using an ASUS ROG Flow Z13 with 64 GB unified memory, the integrated Radeon 8060S GPU delivered 2.2x higher token throughput than Intel's Arc 140V across various model architectures. Time-to-first-token metrics revealed a 4x advantage in smaller models like Llama 3.2 3B Instruct, expanding to 9.1x with 7-8B parameter models such as DeepSeek R1 Distill variants. AMD's architecture particularly excels in multimodal vision tasks, where the Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 processed complex visual inputs up to 7x faster in IBM Granite Vision 3.2 3B and 6x faster in Google Gemma 3 12B compared to Intel's offering. People Can Fly Stepping Away from VR Development & Publishing Press Release by T0@st Monday, 13:42 Discuss (1 Comment) With reference to the current report No. 54/2023 dated 12 November 2023 regarding the conclusion of the agreement for the production of project Bison, the Management Board of PCF Group S.A. with its registered office in Warsaw (the "Company" or the "Issuer") informs that on 6 March 2025 it agreed with Incuvo S.A. with its registered office Katowice ("Incuvo"), a subsidiary of the Issuer, on the terms of the final stages of work on project Bison, which cover the period until the game's release, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025. As part of these arrangements, there were minor changes to the scope of the project and the previous terms of mutual settlements between the parties. According to the changed plan for project Bison, Incuvo will participate in covering a small part of the costs related to the further production of project Bison in exchange for a share of a certain portion of future revenues received by the Company in connection with the publishing and distribution of the game, but only up to the amount that Incuvo allocates to increase the budget for the final stage of production of project Bison. At the same time, the Management Board of the Company conducted an analysis of the current activities of the Company's capital group (the "Group") in the segment of games designed for virtual reality (VR) platforms, the prospects for further development within this segment, taking into account the current situation of the Group and the change in the market situation consisting in a significant reduction in investments in the production of new VR games by VR hardware platforms holders, which negatively affects the assessment of the future commercial potential of this segment, based on which on 6 March 2025 it decided to phase out the Company's VR game publishing activities. Read full story AMD Radeon Captures 45% Market Share in Japan, Could Be Even Higher if Supply Chain Allows by AleksandarK Monday, 13:39 Discuss (10 Comments) AMD's Radeon GPU lineup has achieved a remarkable 45% market share in Japan, representing the brand's strongest position in the competitive graphics card market, according to AMD Japan executive Sato during a recent industry roundtable. This significant market penetration marks a turning point for Team Red in a region historically dominated by NVIDIA. The announcement came during a multi-vendor panel featuring representatives from ASRock, ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI, PowerColor, and Sapphire at an AMD-focused event in Akihabara. While celebrating the milestone, industry partners pushed for more ambitious targets, with ASRock's Haraguchi challenging AMD to aim for a 70% market share. ASUS executive Ichikawa humorously noted the brand's historical underdog status, remarking, "We've never been the ruling party!" The event also featured insights on AMD's latest hardware from prominent tech influencers. "Sir Gradeon" praised the Radeon RX 9070 series for its overclocking headroom and substantial VRAM capacity, highlighting that the GPUs don't require power supply upgrades. Fellow influencer "Shurarara!!" emphasized the RX 9070 XT's price-to-performance ratio, noting its ability to run demanding titles like Monster Hunter Wilds at 4K resolution with appropriate settings. Supply constraints emerged as a significant concern during the roundtable, with AIB partners expressing frustration over GPU allocation limitations despite strong demand. The candid admission from AMD's representative about the company "not being used to selling graphics cards" at this volume sparked laughter among attendees, showing the unexpected nature of AMD's market surge. The event attracted substantial attention, with long lines forming before doors opened. Attendees participated in the X-Walk Post Campaign across Akihabara's electronics district, with early purchasers of AMD products receiving exclusive promotional items. PowerColor Reportedly Revisiting Fighter Series with "New" Radeon RX 7600 Design by T0@st Monday, 13:27 Discuss (10 Comments) Throughout the early months of 2025, PowerColor's new product strategy seemed to signal the retirement of their entry-level "Fighter" graphics card series. A natural replacement—dubbed "Reaper"—was debuted in an official capacity at CES 2025, with AMD's introduction of the new-gen Radeon RX 9070 Series. With the delay of Team Red's RDNA 4 global market release to March 6, the Taiwanese manufacturer proceeded with a launch of custom Radeon RX 7650 GRE Reaper models in China around late February. According to a past weekend VideoCardz news report, PowerColor is expanding its RDNA 3 portfolio once again. Their investigation has unearthed a new Radeon RX 7600 "Fighter V2" model—confusingly, this variant seems to borrow the recently introduced dual-fan Reaper cooling solution. According to leaked information, PowerColor is expected to launch its "V2" Fighter model to a global buying audience. The AIB's Radeon RX 7650 GRE Reaper cards (in black or white) will continue to serve as Chinese market exclusives. The leaked "RX7600 8G-F/V2" product identifier indicates that PowerColor is keeping its "Fighter" family alive for a little bit longer, perhaps with a designation of cards that utilize older generation architecture. Insiders propose that the incoming PowerColor RX 7600 Fighter V2 model is configured with reference specifications; mirroring version 1.0's credentials. VideoCardz has mocked up speculative packaging (see below); they reckon that a black variant is lined up for an imminent release—the aforementioned product code has cropped up across retail databases. Read full story ZOTAC Goes Slimmer with "2.5-slot" SOLID CORE GeForce RTX 5080 & 5070 Ti Models by T0@st Monday, 12:27 Discuss (11 Comments) ZOTAC has quietly introduced its brand-new SOLID CORE graphics card design—four GeForce RTX 50-series models appeared on the brand's website at some point last week. An official press release was not issued alongside the fresh publication of product pages. On first inspection, the Hong Kong-based manufacturer seems to be reusing their existing SOLID shroud and backplate setup. As reported by VideoCardz, ZOTAC's engineering team has implemented a very mild shrink in one dimension. Triple-fan cooled SOLID COREs have arrived with a "slimmer profile" 2.5 slot design (56 mm/2.2 inches), albeit with an I/O bracket that still occupies three rows. The original SOLID card is a substantial 3.5-slot prospect; with its shroud's height measured at 68 mm/2.7 inches. Specification sheets for SOLID CORE GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti SKUs (standard and OC) advertise familiar feature sets—barring a difference in height, the usual SOLID provisions are present. Highlights include a vapor chamber-based "IceStorm 3.0 Advanced Cooling" solution, BladeLink Fans, 12V-2x6 Safety Light, and SPECTRA RGB Lighting. Circa-CES 2025, NVIDIA and its board partners were keenly advertising some "SFF-Ready" products, but ZOTAC's flagship and high-end "Blackwell" GB203 GPU-based models are distinct space fillers—even in 2.5-slot form. The company's GeForce RTX 5070 SOLID design exists as a proper 2-slot solution; VideoCardz believes that a variation of this shroud will be attached to upcoming GeForce RTX 5060 Ti models. Read full story Intel China Presentation Slide Indicates Early 2026 Volume Launch of Panther Lake by T0@st Monday, 11:12 Discuss (17 Comments) According to an attendee of a recent Intel AI presentation, company representatives revealed a release timeline for next-gen Core Ultra "Panther Lake" mobile processor family. Team Blue's China office appears to be courting users of DeepSeek R1, as evidenced by meng59739449's sharing of a processor product roadmap (machine translated by VideoCardz). A volume launch of Core Ultra 300 "Panther Lake-H" series seems to be on the cards for Q1 2026. Earlier this month, an Intel executive insisted that Panther Lake was on track for a second half of 2025 roll out. Lately, industry moles have alleged that a "problematic 18A node" process has caused delays across new generation product lines. Team Blue watchdogs reckon that high volume manufacturing (HVM) of Panther Lake chips will kick off in September. By October, an Early Enablement Program (EEP) is expected to start—with samples sent off to OEMs for full approval. Industry experts believe that Intel will following a familiar pattern of "announcing the processor in the second half of the prior year, but ramping up mass production in the following year." Previous generation mobile CPU platforms—Meteor Lake and Lunar Lake—received similar treatment in the recent past. Last week, a Panther Lake-H (PTL-H) sample was on general display at Embedded World 2025—the German office is similarly engaged in hyping up the AI-crunching capabilities of roadmapped products. Read full story US Self-Sufficiency of Semiconductors Unlikely According to Japanese Expert by TheLostSwede Monday, 10:49 Discuss (18 Comments) According to Akira Amari, a Japanese politician and semiconductor industry expert, it's unlikely that the US will ever reach self-sufficiency when it comes to semiconductor production. This has nothing to do with foundries, as the US might manage to be self-sufficient in terms or raw chip production needs, but the country is said to be unlikely to be able to reach a complete supply chain of everything else needed to produce the chips. Countries like Japan, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Belgium, South Korea and more are heavily invested in supplying not only components needed to produce semiconductors, but also machinery and chemicals. Amari is suggesting that these countries should form a co-operative alliance to help strengthen their supply chains at home, rather than putting all eggs in one basket to try and appease the US. This statement comes after TSMC promised to invest an additional US$100 billion over an unspecified time frame in the US. Time will tell if he's right or not, but it's unlikely that any country will ever be self-sufficient when it comes to making semiconductors, regardless of how big they are or what natural resources they have access to locally. Read full story Non-OC XFX Radeon RX 9070 XT Mercury Lacks Vapor Chamber, Just Two 8-pin Inputs by btarunr Monday, 04:09 Discuss (15 Comments) XFX found itself in hot water over false marketing of its Radeon RX 9070 XT Mercury non-OC edition (part number: RX-97TMERCB9). This particular SKU is a slightly toned down version of the RX 9070 XT Mercury OC Gaming Edition (RX-97TRGBBB9), with a few obvious differences such as the lack of a factory overclock, and a fixed white LED lighting strip replacing RGB; but it turns out that XFX didn't highlight a few crucial differences in the product page and marketing materials of the non-OC card. Apparently, this card lacks the vapor chamber baseplate that the Mercury OC Gaming Edition card has. That's not all, while the OC version comes with a triple 8-pin PCIe power input configuration, the non-OC card has just two 8-pin PCIe power inputs. These two specs were part of the marketing and packaging materials of the card. The RX 9070 XT on its own is within the power spec of dual 8-pin + slot power (375 W), but the third 8-pin connector is found on many overclocked custom design cards by AMD board partners, increasing overclocking headroom of these cards. XFX responded to angry owners of the non-OC cards on Reddit. In its first response, it admitted its mistake of advertising the card as coming with three 8-pin power inputs when it only came with two. In its next response, it admitted that the card comes with a vapor chamber-based cooling solution, and mentioned that the card instead has a solid nickel-plated copper baseplate for its cooler, paired with Honeywell PTM7950 thermal interface material—something that's very popular with AMD board partners. Besides the apology, XFX presented customers with a recourse—that they could reach out to the company's distributor NRInfo for help. Read Review Split Fiction Proves Massively Popular During Launch Week, Sells Over 2 Million Copies On Steam by Cpt.Jank Friday, 23:26 Discuss (25 Comments) EA's latest RPG, Split Fiction, launched to much fanfare from critics and gamers alike, with its unorthodox gameplay style and a focus on co-op setting it apart from other recent game releases. It seems as though this early launch success has carried over to financial success for EA and the game's developer, beating out even the massively popular It Takes Two, which also came from Hazelight Studios. As of the time of writing, SteamDB reports that Split Fiction has garnered a peak concurrent player count of 259,003 players. Hazelight Studios today also announced that it had sold over 2 million copies of Split Fiction in the game's first week. For comparison, this is twice as many sales as the recently cancelled Price of Persia: The Lost Crown managed in the year since it released. Hazelight's previous co-op hit, It Takes Two, peaked at just over 70,000 concurrent players nearly three years after its initial launch. Compared to other Steam games, Split Fiction currently sits in 51st place when it comes to peak concurrent player counts, just behind Rust but ahead of The Finals. It's worth mentioning that Split Fiction is also a full price game, coming in at $49.99 on Steam, while the majority of the other games in the top 50 ranking are free-to-play.
