ForeCast answers the questions: "Where is it going to flood, and what people, property and critical infrastructure will be impacted?” NowCast answers the questions: "What is the extent of the flooding right now? Where are rescue crews required?" PostCast answers the questions: “What was the maximum extent of the flood? How many homes were impacted? What are the estimated damages?" These products are data-as-a-service and are designed to be integrated into existing Geographic Information System (GIS) software and platforms to provide unrivalled situational awareness at scale. What industries do you serve? We are focused on assisting four key industries: Government - Supporting emergency managers with a common operating picture at the local, state and federal level. Critical infrastructure - Helping energy utilities, telecommunications and asset owners with situational awareness to improve safety, prevent damage to assets and fast-track recovery. Transport - Operational flood intel enables operational road closures and manages movement logistics at scale. Insurance - Flood intelligence enables rapid prediction of impacted policyholders and claims volume to improve claims resourcing and management and client support. However, our services are not limited to these industries so please contact our team to discuss your company’s particular needs. How do you produce fast, real-time flood extents and depth?FloodMapp has developed proprietary modelling software DASH (Dynamic Automated Scalable Hydroinformatics) to deliver flood impact extents via ForeCast, NowCast and PostCast. Modelled flood water levels and underlying terrain data are used to derive flood depths and any associated impact analytics. Hydraulics are fundamentally based on a steady-state uniform flow assumption. Forecast hydrology models utilize machine learning to derive the fundamental relationships between rainfall and runoff behaviour to estimate the maximum flood extent expected within the forecast period. What is FloodMapp's point of difference? We offer a world-first model for scalable, real-time flood mapping. Our proprietary modeling software, DASH, delivers street level flood impact extents across whole states or countries. Where current flood warnings advise of the time and height of a predicted flood peak, our model will predict which specific properties or assets on a street will be impacted or show those that currently are or were previously impacted. FloodMapp’s products support all phases of the emergency management process, enabling situational awareness before, during and after a flood. We’re different because we understand that every flood is different and dynamic. We focus on modeling all phases of a flood event to answer the questions "Where is it going to flood, and what people, property, and critical infrastructure will be impacted?”, "What is the extent of the flooding right now?" and "What was the maximum extent of the flood?" We bridge the gap in situational awareness by providing automatic updates of flood impact extent every hour, 24/7, as the flood event unfolds. What locations do you provide coverage in?We have growing operational coverage in Australia and the United States, with new regions coming online each week. If you are interested in other areas of the world, please contact us to register your interest. How accurate are your results? Our products are built for emergency managers and their peers, with a focus on modeling flood extents in real-time to provide round-the-clock situational awareness. We validate our models based on a variety of publicly and client-provided sources. A large-scale review showed FloodMapp models correctly identify up to 85% of inundated properties, when compared to state government damage assessment datasets. What kind of flooding events are covered by your products? Our forecast models incorporate all types of flooding, where sufficient stream level gauge information exists, including riverine flooding, flash flooding, tidal and coastal inundation flooding. How far in advance can you forecast? Our ForeCast model is a product of the meteorologic forecast and recorded historical data relating to rainfall and recorded water levels. The amount of warning time we can provide depends on several variables. We work with clients to understand their needs, catchment behaviour, consequences and risk to provide a forecast horizon, typically six to 24 hours in advance, but in some instances, up to seven days. However, the further away the anticipated event, the more uncertain the data is regarding spatial variation and intensity of rainfall. What input data do you use?Our models draw on a number of data inputs including forecasted and actual rainfall, real-time stream level gauge information, antecedent catchment conditions and terrain information. We continuously improve our models, including assessing and incorporating additional data sources. How do I access the FloodMapp products?FloodMapp’s products are all provided as live data feeds and designed to be directly integrated into your existing GIS platform a/o web-based dashboards. Each product is available as a Web Map Service (WMS) or Web Feature Service (WFS) layer. This can connect with your native GIS platform such as Esri ArcGIS, Esri Online, Google or Mapbox. We also have a FloodMapp Esri ArcGIS Online dashboard available. This dashboard is valuable for customers who don’t have an existing spatial platform, whereas the web service is better placed for internal use where customers want to access FloodMapp spatial layers within their own native GIS platforms. Read more about WMS, WFS and the power of live mapping feeds here. How long does it take to set up the FloodMapp products with my organization? Many locations within our current service area are turnkey and available immediately, though others may require our engineers to perform a calibration process, which typically takes less than 90 days. Clients typically can access products within hours of being provided user credentials. What format are the products supplied in?We typically provide our products as live mapping data feeds in WMS/WFS formats. These formats interact with ArcGIS, Mapbox, Google Maps, QGIS and most other web-based spatial applications.Do you consider strategic partnerships?Yes! We currently have several strategic partnerships and are open to more. We value collaboration with organizations servicing our key market sectors who are passionate about emergency management. Please contact us if you’d like to work with us to build a safer future together.Do you account for climate change in your models?Yes.Unlike others, we do not derive our result from modelled static libraries or climate change scenarios. We deliver live mapping of flood impact, based on forecast and real-time rainfall data, meaning the effects of climate variability on current events areimmediately included in our model results. However, we currently do not offer climate change scenario modelling for future events.
