They ranged in age from 18 to 76 and represented a variety of academic areas and faith and ethnic groups. We hope that you are able to reflect on the tremendous promise each of them embodied for our world with creativity, intelligence, humility, and humanity. This site also provides information about online resources, latest news and events, information about the April 16 Memorial, and links to previous years' events and support information. Live for 32. 2026 Schedule Thursday, April 16, 2026 Midnight Lighting of Ceremonial Candle – April 16 Memorial The ceremonial candle will be lit by representatives of the student body and the names of the 32 Hokies lost on April 16, 2007, will be read. The Corps of Cadets will stand guard for 32 minutes. The candle will remain lit for 24 hours. 9:43 a.m. Wreath Laying and Moment of Silence – April 16 Memorial Members of the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad will carry wreaths to the memorial, which will then be placed by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands and Laura Sands. 11:27 p.m. Cadet Guard – April 16 Memorial Members of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will stand guard at the April 16 Memorial for 32 minutes. 11:59 p.m. Extinguishing of Ceremonial Candle – April 16 Memorial Members of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will stand guard for 32 minutes prior to the 11:59 p.m. extinguishing. The candle will be extinguished and the light will be carried back into Burruss Hall, representing the commitment to never forget. Saturday, April 18, 2026 9 a.m. 3.2 for 32 Run in Remembrance – Campus Online registration opens the week of February 1. For more information, please visit the Rec Sports website. 1:30 p.m. Remembrance Service – War Memorial Chapel A service to honor those who died on April 16, 2007. Seating will begin at 1:15 p.m. No recording equipment permitted. For questions related to any of these events, or about the Day of Remembrance in general, please contact Kelly McCann. Alumni Chapter Events Central Pennsylvania When: Saturday, April 25 at 10 a.m. Where: Bullfrog Valley Park, 400 Bullfrog Valley Road, Hummelstown, PA 17036 Registration: Facebook event coming soon. Charleston When: Thursday, April 16 at 6 p.m. Where: The Brick, 24 Ann St., Suite A, Charleston, SC 29403 Additional details: The start and end location of the 3.2 mile run/walk will be The Brick. We will meet at 6 p.m. and start the run at 6:30 p.m. This is not a formally organized race, so there will be no blocked off roads or signs. Everyone will run/walk at their own risk, as you would running downtown any day! Family and friends are welcome to attend. We will start at The Brick, head east down Ann Street, turn left on Murray Boulevard, continue down King Street, turn left on Broad to East Bay, turn left at Calhoun to Meeting Street, turn right on Meeting Street, and finish back at The Brick. Chicago When: Saturday, April 18 at 10 a.m. Where: Lincoln Park, 72 W. Lasalle Drive, Chicago, IL 60614 Registration: RSVP by Friday, April 17. Additional details: We'll gather by the Benjamin Franklin Monument at Lincoln Park and begin a 3.2 mile run/walk through the park and along the Lakefront Path. Don't forget to wear orange and maroon. We'll have light refreshments available. More details will be sent out closer to the event date. Follow our Instagram to stay updated. Cincinnati When: Saturday, April 18 at 10 a.m. Where: 3760 Paxton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45209 Registration: Facebook event. Additional details: Meet in the Wasson Way parking lot in front of Kroger. If the lot is full, you can park in the Kroger parking lot across the street. We'll walk/run 1.6 miles on the Wasson Way trail in Hyde Park and then turn back to finish up the 3.2 miles. CSRA When: Saturday, April 18 at 9 a.m. Where: The Larder, 89 Crystal Lake Drive, North Augusta, SC 29841 Additional details: We will meet at The Larder at 9 a.m. If anyone is interested, we can have brunch at The Larder after the walk. Check our Facebook for updates. D.C. When: Saturday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m. Where: Virginia Tech Academic Building One, 3625 Potomac Ave., Alexandria, VA 22305 Registration: Register online. Additional details: This event is rain or shine. Participants of all ages and four-legged friends are welcome. We will begin and end at Academic Building One and run/walk along the Potomac Yard Trail and Main Line Boulevard. More information about the course will be provided closer to the event. We encourage you to wear Hokie gear. Denver When: Saturday, April 18 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Where: Denver South High School, 1700 E. Louisiana Ave., Denver, CO 80210 Registration: Register online. Additional details: Gather at the Denver South High School parking lot, located across from the southeast corner of Washington Park. The walk/run begins at 11 a.m. with a group photo. All are welcome to join and the chapter will provide food for the walk/run. Please bring an item for the potluck if you are able. The potluck sign-up will be in the confirmation email received after registering. Fauquier When: Sunday, April 19 at 1 p.m. Where: Commuter Parking Lot, Route 29 and 605, Warrenton, VA 20187 Additional details: As part of our Big Event clean up project, we will also take a moment of silence to honor and remember. First State When: Thursday, April 16 from 5-8 p.m. Where: Killeens Pond State Park, 5025 Killens Pond Road, Felton, DE 19943 Registration: RSVP to delawarehokies@gmail.com by Friday, April 10. Additional details: This 2.6 mile scenic hike will conclude with a bonfire. Park in the overflow parking lot on the south side at the campground and follow signs to the bonfire site. Gather at the bonfire site by 5:15 p.m. for the welcome and a remembrance reading. We will begin the hike on Pondside Trail at Killens Pond (easy to moderate difficulty). During the hike, we will place 32 stones along the trail. Afterwards, we will meet back at the bonfire site and light the bonfire while enjoying refreshments. Each participant will receive a miniature candle to light for a moment of silence followed by any remarks. Then, we will enjoy smores, snacks, and socializing. A group photo will be taken at the end of the event around 8 p.m. Houston When: Saturday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m. Where: Memorial Park, 6501 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77007 Registration: Register online. Additional details: Run or walk together and bring your family, friends, and Virginia Tech spirit. Check Facebook ahead of the event for details about an exact meeting location. New England When: Saturday, April 18 at 11:45 a.m. Where: The Embrace on the Boston Common, 139 Tremont St., Boston, MA 02108 Additional details: We begin the walk/run at noon. Palmetto When: Sunday, April 19 at 2 p.m. Where: The Commons, 147 Welborn St., Greenville, SC 29601 Additional details: Meet outside of The Commons by the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Philadelphia When: Sunday, April 19 from 10:30 a.m.-noon Where: Ben Franklin Bridge, 5th and Race streets, Philadelphia, PA 08102. Registration: Register online. Additional details: Meet at the base of the bridge on the Philadelphia side at 10:30 a.m. We will begin at 10:40 a.m. Dogs are welcome, as long as they are leashed! Participants can run the full length of the bridge or to the mid-point and back. It is about 1.5 miles in each direction. After you finish, head to Fringe Bar for a meetup, located about .5 miles from the bridge's base. It is accessible by walking and street and lot parking options are also available nearby. Food and drink at Fringe Bar are pay your own way. Make your own reservation if you’d like a table for your party. Learn more through our Facebook event. San Francisco When: Saturday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m. Where: Rincon Park, The Embarcadero & Folsom St., San Francisco, CA 94105 Registration: Facebook event. Additional details: We'll run/walk/bike towards Pier 39, where we'll turn around and head back to the start. Afterwards, we'll head somewhere nearby for lunch together. Seattle When: Thursday, April 16 at 6 p.m. Where: Bellevue Botanical Garden, 12001 Main St., Bellevue, WA 98005 Registration: Facebook event. Additional details: We are still determining the walking route and anticipate a 3.2 mile walk within the gardens and adjacent park. This event is rain or shine. Participants of all ages are welcome. Sadly, no four-legged friends can join. We encourage you to wear Hokie gear. Tidewater When: Saturday, April 18 at 9 a.m. Where: Neptune’s Park, 3001 Atlantic Ave., Virginia Beach, VA 23451 Registration: Facebook event. Additional details: Meet at 9 a.m. in front of the King Neptune statue at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Parking is available in the 31st Street Public Parking Garage. Participants can run or walk and are encouraged to wear orange and maroon. Tri-Cities When: Thursday, April 9 at 6:15 p.m. Where: 12300 Hogans Alley, Chester, VA 23836 Registration: Facebook event. Additional details: We will meet at the pool parking lot in the River's Bend community and begin our walk at 6:15 p.m. Williamsburg When: Saturday, April 11 Where: Williamsburg Botanical Gardens, 5537 Centerville Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188 Additional details: As part of our Big Event garden project, we will also take a moment in our Remembrance Garden to honor and reflect.
