What unites them is a shared attention to matter whether pigment, forest, light, pixel, or residue as a starting point for elaborating singular ways of perceiving landscape, time, and transformation. Exhibitions RETRATOS 9 October - 15 November 2025 For a long time, the portrait has ceased to be merely the gesture of fixing features. In the field of contemporary art, it reinvents itself as an expanded territory, where identity projects itself onto objects, symbols, and atmospheres that reveal more of the subject than their own face. It is within this expanded space that the practices of Adriano Fagundes and Daniel Mattar converge, in a dialogue that takes shape in this exhibition Exhibitions Vestiges of the Pleistocene 25 July - 6 September 2025 In the surfaces created by Dudu Garcia, we sense something that precedes us and runs through us. The marks left there are not merely material and gesture: they evoke a distant time when human presence was inscribed in the world through need, instinct, and language. Exhibitions SWIMMING POOL AS A SENSITIVE LANDSCAPE 2 - 31 May 2025 The artist presents a set of newly created small-format works that challenge the boundaries between technique, medium, and language. Among them are delicately hand-embroidered cyanotypes on fabric, photographs layered with colored filters (gels) that add depth, color, and luminosity, and oil paintings that translate the geometry of tiles through chromatic precision and pictorial sensitivity. Together, these pieces offer a sensorial and material immersion into the forms of water and the architecture that contains it.   Enquire SWIMMING%20POOL%20AS%20A%20SENSITIVE%20LANDSCAPE Exhibitions (COL)ORATOR 20 March - 19 April 2025 The creative mechanisms of Daniel Mattar and Lode Laperre reflect a deep dive into the intersection of traditional techniques and Eastern philosophies, resulting in works that dissolve the boundaries between the traditional and the contemporary. By their very nature, these works invite a contemplative experience as well as a reflection on impermanence, the beauty of transience, and the complexity of materiality. (Rui Guerreiro) Enquire %28COL%29ORATOR Exhibitions Atlantic Between Us 7 November - 7 December 2024 Atlantic Between Us, the current exhibition, highlights the chromatic and conceptual dialogue between works by the Gelli sisters (Alice and Gabi), created in Rio de Janeiro, and those by Daniel Mattar, made in Lisbon, showcasing ways of locating oneself in the world. The Gelli sisters draw on knowledge passed down by their grandmothers: manual techniques, sayings, and memories, poetic tools for situating oneself in life and the cosmos. The use of recyclable plastic not only adds a sense of sustainability and respect toward the oceans but also evokes the cyclical movement of matter. As they reconnect with the matriarchs of their family, the artists recreate horizons, shifting skies, and figures that make us see maps, echoing Ailton Krenak’s assertion that the future is ancestral. (Cristiana Tejo) Exhibitions linhatravelâmina 3 October - 1 November 2024 The exhibition is a game of encounters between poetic and visual languages, along with formal approaches that derive from methods of making, empathies, and the questions posed by the artistic proposals of its authors: Maria Ribeiro, Miguel António Domingues, and Daniel Mattar. Curator João Silvério Exhibitions Passage: A Mode of Reconstruction 16 May - 15 June 2024 In the works of Daniel Mattar and Antonio Bokel, we encounter two distinct approaches to manipulating the geometry of shapes, yet also imbued with a poetic aura that sets them apart. In one way or another, the form seems to cross points of contact in their processes of work and research, prominently present in gestures closely linked to the act of creation that reveal solutions and inquiries that transcend mere formal concerns, or sometimes verge on an apparent informality. In this aspect, these gestures, so to speak, recall the history of 20th-century art, revisiting practices in painting and sculpture that question methodologies and various compositional variants typified in these disciplines. Curator João Silvério Art Book "Flowing Forms" BY DANIEL MATTAR This limited edition art book brings together the artistic journey of Daniel Mattar over the past seven years, a period marked by his move to Lisbon and filled with transformative changes that guided the evolution of Mattar's work through the years. Flowing Forms features a critical essay by French curator Martha Kirszenbaum and a biographical text by Brazilian journalist Renata Izaal.   Dimensions: 24 × 28,50 cm  Pages: 224 ISBN: 978-989-33-5121-5 Status: Available Enquire Art%20Book%20Flowing%20Forms%20by%20Daniel%20Mattar Exhibitions Flowing Forms 23 November 2023 - 10 February 2024 The choice of tones and colors plays a very particular role in Daniel Mattar’s practice, which he distills with meticulous care. Taking inspiration from the color charts of hardware stores, he composes his own palette with evocative names, such as titanium white, the most brilliant opaque white, used throughout the history of art; Payne’s gray, a dark gray, with a blue tendency, widely used in watercolors and obtained by mixing several pigments; or ultramarine blue, a deep and historically precious blue because it’s obtained by grinding fine lapis lazuli and is among the most expensive pigments. Exhibitions Umbra Natural 21 September - 12 November 2023 In the vastness of the forest, Cássio Vasconcellos and Daniel Mattar invite us to an aesthetic and existential dance between Photography and Painting, surprising us with shadows and glimpses of... Exhibitions SAMSARA 18 May - 18 July 2023 Samsara, a revered term in Buddhism, refers to the continuous movements of the cycles of life. It teaches us that to escape the inevitability of what would seemingly be the end; one must attain a particular state of wisdom and enlightenment. Samsara, this exhibition, brings together Milton Montenegro's and Daniel Mattar's artworks, both an ode to luminosity and the capacity to transcend. Art, after all, is one of the most fertile territories to glimpse borders that transport us beyond tangible reality. Exhibitions FOREVER IS MADE UP OF MANY NOWS 23 November 2022 - 14 January 2023 As in Emily Dickinson's poem "Forever is composed of nows", which inspires the title of this exhibition, the idea of time here is an agent that has neither beginning nor end, It is infinite in the many "nows" of this encounter between Patricia Goùvea and Daniel Mattar. One facing the other, artists with different inspirations, but in dialogue in the layers of duration, colour and movement of their productions. Exhibitions _HIPERFÍCIE 6 October - 18 November 2022     From the creative dialogue between the artists Daniel Mattar and Nelson Porto, the shared concept of 'Hiperfície' emerges. This idea, translated into the works presented in the homonymous exhibition, refers to a latent creative space that emerges from the ever growing fault lines between the digital and physical realms.                                                Exhibitions Deji Art Museum 1 December 2021 - 1 March 2022 After 2 years of upgrade and renovation, the Deji Art Museum is now open to the public. Exhibitions HAKANAI 17 March - 25 June 2022 This exhibition is based on the meeting of two convergent and complementary poetics. Both Francisco Baccaro and Daniel Mattar have Japanese culture as an important visual and conceptual reference.
