Founded in 2012 as the Department of Defense’s National Manufacturing Innovation Institute for AM and the first of the Manufacturing USA network, America Makes is based in Youngstown, Ohio, and managed by the not-for-profit National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM). What is additive manufacturing?Additive manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing, is a process of creating three-dimensional objects by building them one layer at a time. It starts with a digital design that is sliced into thin layers, and then a 3D printer builds the object by depositing or solidifying material.
