Our appeals Help every man with prostate cancer Help us outsmart melanoma Defeat blood cancer Help more women survive cancer Childhood cancers Combination treatments Monthly gift for cancer patients Transcript The Institute of Cancer ResearchWhere we make the discoveries that defeat cancerWe are a world-leading cancer research institute, a charity, and a member institution of the University of London. Public donations and clinical partnerships are helping us to make the discoveries that defeat cancer. We discovered that DNA damage is the basic cause of cancer, laying the foundation for the idea that cancer is a genetic disease. We've discovered many cancer-related genes – including the breast, prostate and ovarian cancer gene BRCA2 – and revolutionised radiotherapy to make it more targeted, with fewer side effects. We discover more new cancer drugs than any other academic centre in the world. Give the gift of research to help every man with prostate cancer live longer, healthier lives. Some of our latest cancer discoveries ICR appoints global business leader as new Trustee 06/02/26 Dr Michelle Harrison – an international business leader with three decades of experience advising clients in global public policy, public affairs and brand building – has joined the Board of Trustees of The Institute of Cancer Research, London. See full story ICR welcomes approval of plans for major life-sciences district The London Cancer Hub 05/02/26 - Henry French The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) has welcomed the approval of ambitious new plans to create a home for oncology and life-sciences companies in Sutton, south London. See full story New structural insights reveal how key DNA repair enzymes are recruited and controlled 05/02/26 Researchers have uncovered how a key DNA repair enzyme is recruited and activated inside cells, answering long-standing questions about how cells protect and repair their DNA and providing the structural groundwork that could support the refinement of existing cancer therapies. See full story ICR responds to the Government’s National Cancer Plan 04/02/26 The Government has today published the National Cancer Plan, setting out a 10-year strategy to improve cancer outcomes in England through new targets and measures to accelerate diagnosis and treatment.
