With hundreds of years of combined experience in these waterways, we hold ourselves to the highest safety and environmental standards ensuring this legacy strives for generations to come. Learn More  About HaiSea Marine HaiSea Marine is a joint venture majority owned by the Haisla Nation in partnership with Seaspan ULC. “HaiSea Marine is majority-owned by the Haisla Nation,” Haisla Nation Chief Councillor Crystal Smith said. “Our agreement with Seaspan ensures our members will have access to employment, training and procurement opportunities on the contract with LNG Canada. The opportunity to work locally in the marine industry is of great significance to the Haisla people.” Both partners have considerable experience and knowledge of operating in Northern British Columbia, making HaiSea a natural choice for providing responsible and dependable marine services in the region. In May 2021, HaiSea announced the start of an innovative and industry leading new battery-powered and low emissions tugboat build program. HaiSea Marine has a major contract with LNG Canada to build and operate escort and harbour tugs required for their export facility in Kitimat. With an ample supply of clean hydroelectric power available in Kitimat, the harbour tugs will be able to recharge from dedicated shore charging facilities at their berths between dockings, effectively resulting in near-zero emissions when running on batteries. GHG emissions from the new tugs are expected to be significantly lower (54% and 24% respectively) than diesel powered alternatives. The HaiSea Marine fleet is among the greenest tugboat fleets in the world, and is now providing ship-assist and escort towing services to LNG carriers calling at the new export facility in Kitimat in the unceded traditional territory of the Haisla Nation. Careers at HaiSea Be part of a winning team Throughout 2025, HaiSea Marine will be looking for talented employees to apply for rewarding work in our industry on British Columbia’s North Coast – to fill jobs in our operations, ashore, management, service and at-sea teams.
