Reinking, CFASr. Market StrategistSeptember 20, 2024 at 9:15 a.m. EDTYesterday, as the Fed’s rate cut, and messaging marinated overnight it triggered a risk-on trade around the globe sending equities, commodities, and crypto currencies higher. In the US the S&P 500 closed higher by 1.7% hitting a new all-time high. Tech stocks led the rally, but cyclical sectors also traded very well while defensive/yield oriented sectors pulled back modestly. The NYSE FANG+ index was up 3.4%, testing its August high ~11.5k which is still ~7% off its July ATH (12,280). There was continued strength in Asia overnight while European indices are pulling back modestly. Futures in the US are also trading lower accelerating slightly to the downside as we approach the open.
