On this occasion, the first monograph dedicated to the life and work of Samantha McEwen, published by 5 Continents Éditions, will be launched. Samantha McEwen arrived in New York at the age of 18. She enrolled at the School of Visual Arts where she became friends with one of the students, Keith Haring, then Kenny Scharf. New York was then a village where all artists rubed shoulders. Samantha participated in the intense life of the East Village. She collaborated on numerous exhibitions both in Clubs and at theTony Schafrazi gallery in 1985 and 1987. The end of the 1980s was marked by AIDS. Samantha resettled in London. These were not easy years for female artists.
