GET STARTED Who We Are Write Pittsburgh is a nonprofit literary arts organization that uses writing as a tool for transformation, liberation, and community-building. Through accessible workshops, publications, and partnerships, we center voices that have been historically silenced or excluded—especially those impacted by racism, incarceration, addiction, poverty, and other systemic barriers. MEET OUR TEAM What We Do Community Collaboration Workshops Writing workshops in jails, recovery programs, transitional housing, and community spaces—centering healing, self-expression, and dignity for justice-impacted and marginalized writers. Public Workshops & Education Accessible in-person and virtual workshops for adults and youth focused on personal storytelling, reflection, and craft—designed for people outside traditional academic or literary pipelines. Corporate & Organizational Workshops Writing-based workshops for organizations seeking opportunities for creative expression, deeper communication, reflection, and connection—grounded in trauma-informed, equity-centered facilitation. SUPPORT OUR MISSION “Write Pittsburgh was founded on the belief that writing is not just about craft and form, or spelling and grammar. It’s a tool for transformation, imagination, liberation, celebration, and elevation. The work that we do focuses on community-building through storytelling, especially for people navigating systemic barriers, trauma, or marginalization. We prioritize access and view lived experience as a form of expertise. We operate under the premise that everyone has a story and deserves to tell it. Whether through poetry, personal essay, speculative fiction, or a form that doesn’t fit neatly inside a genre or even involve the written word at all, we KNOW that stories change lives. And this is why I am honored to lead this organization and work alongside compassionate, talented, amazing, facilitators and volunteers who help make all of this possible.” - Dr. Amber Epps, Executive Director Why Write Pittsburgh?
