Since 2019, we've been hosting the Asia-Pacific Disaster Resilience Networking Meeting three times a year to keep this effort going strong. 2024, we're planning to take this network to the next level by teaming up with the Urban Resilience Group under the AP Community of Practice(CoP). To kick things off, we had a joint meeting in July with the Asia-Pacific Urban Resilience Hub. At this meeting, we decided to form a one big knowledge community, CoP. The UN-Habitat defines urban resilience as ”the ability of any urban system, with its inhabitants, to maintain continuity through all shocks and stresses, while positively adapting and transforming toward sustainability.“ This means creating environments that are not only livable but also resilient enough to handle the unexpected. In today’s rapidly changing world, where climate change, population growth, and unforeseen events are becoming the norm, building resilient cities is more important than ever. Think of urban resilience as a city’s immune system. Just as our bodies can fight off illnesses and recover from injuries, resilient cities are equipped to deal with various stresses and shocks. This involves a mix of well-planned infrastructure, strong so, sustainable practices, and effective governance. According to IFRC, the world’s urban population is growing by 1.4 million people per week. If this trend continues, around two thirds of the world will be living in the cities by 2050. Furthermore, John Wilmoth, the Director of the UN‘s population division(UN DESA) stated ”managing urban areas has become one of the most important development challenges of the 21st century. Our success or failure in building sustainable cities will be a major factor in the success of the post 2015 UN development agenda.“ #redcross #apdrc #upc #urbanresilience #대한적십자사 #적십자 #도시복원력 도시복원력이란 무엇일까요? #redcross #대한적십자사 #적십자 #도시복원력 #urbanresilience 📌 Eligibility: 18 to 30 years old, Open to all Youth - Volunteers and Korean Red Cross staff are eligible to participate over the age of 30 as leaders - Individual and team applications accepted (1 team composition with 1-3 members) 💡How to apply STEP 1️⃣ Brain Storming and Ideation - ① Choose a topic ② Recognise a problem ③ Identify problems ④ Propose a solution ⑤ Establish a detailed plan STEP 2️⃣ Climate resilience training and certificates - (LINK) https://lc.multicampus.com/krc1 - Sign up -> Search for 'Climate Resilience(기후복원력)' -> Complete training -> Issue certificate STEP 3️⃣ Application - Shoot a video of your idea or submit a proposal * Video: Create a 5-minute video and share the file and link. * Proposal: Complete and submit a proposal - Download the template via the competition board - What to submit: ① Personal Information Provision Agreement and Ethics Pledge (in both Korean and English) ② Training certificate ③ Idea (video or proposal) 📌 Date & Time: Feb.5. GDPC demonstrated the VR technology through comprehensive research on School-Based DRR. The second session highlighted the learning and insight in VR and Metaverse development from the technical experts' point of view in the related field. Lastly, active Q&A time proceeded in the panel discussion, encouraging other colleagues to think about the way forward. Although the population of Makoko has increased dramatically since 1962, data about the community, such as structures, density, and street appearances have not been identified. This made it nearly impossible to properly track land ownership, plan infrastructures, and prepare for emergencies. To improve the living conditions of the people of Makoko and to allocate resources from the government, Code for Africa began training the community to use drones to map Makoko. You can now explore Makoko on OpenStreetMap. Let's learn more about the production story!
