New car registrations for month of October were up 9.7% (2,423) when compared to October 2023 (2,208). Registrations year to date are down 1.2% (119,668) on the same period last year (121,134). Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) declined by 14.2% (1,197) compared to October last year (1,395). Year to date LCVs are up 8.0% (30,167). HGVs (Heavy Goods Vehicles) registrations are up 4.8% (132) in comparison to October 2023 (126). Year to date HGVs are up 10.4% (2,757). Imported Used Cars have seen a 38.5% (5,710) rise in October 2024, when compared to October 2023 (4,123). Year to date imports are up 25.9% (53,448) on 2023 (42,461). In October 529 new electric cars were registered, which was 12.3% lower than the 603 registrations in October 2023. So far this year, 16,656 new electric cars have been registered representing a 25.4% decrease compared to the same period in 2023 when 22,329 electric cars were registered. The A6 Sportback e-tron costs €74,500, and the A6 Avant e-tron €76,325. The price for the A6 Sportback e- tron quattro is €90,370, and for the A6 Avant e-tron quattro €92,195. At its world premiere in July this year, the new A6 e-tron was presented in two versions: the Audi A6 e-tron performance with rear-wheel drive and a system output of 270 kW (with Launch Control 280 kW) and a sporty Audi S6 e-tron with quattro drive and an output of 370 kW (with Launch Control 405 kW). Read More 29th October 2024 New Qashqai is Refreshed and Ready I remember first seeing and then driving the Nissan Qashqai back in 2007. After getting my tongue around its name and its spelling added to my motoring lexicon, the sheer ease of living with this elevated hatchback, with SUV overtones, was a revelation. While one could only wonder why it wasn’t done previously, other manufacturers very quickly sharpened their pencils, resulting in sub-segments being added to the major sales categories – the crossover was born. Nissan Ireland unveiled their third generation Qashqai back in 2021, this refreshed model now coming with their 1.5 e-Power and 1.3 litre mild hybrid, which will no doubt add to the almost 60,000 units Irish drivers have given homes to since Nissan created that crossover segment.   Those opting for the new refreshed Qashqai, will get exterior restyling, a wide range of updates to the infotainment and connected services on-board, plus a refined interior design. Space must be made now, with the announcement that Motor Distributors Limited (MDL) has been confirmed as importers and distributors in Ireland of the Chinese- made ‘XPENG’ range of all-electric passenger cars.   For the Irish motoring community, the appointment will be formally recognised by the imminent arrival and launch on the Irish market of the mid-sized XPENG G6 SUV model, first in a range of XPENG passenger cars all of which will be marketed here over time.   MDL chief executive, Paddy Finnegan said: “the XPENG portfolio of models which we will offer to Irish motorists and their dealers – whom we have yet to fully appoint – is one that MDL will be proud to represent”. New car registrations for September were down 10.3% (5,137) when compared to September 2023 (5,727). Registrations year to date are down 1.4% (117,264) on the same period last year (118,926). Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) increased by 6.6% (2,025) compared to September last year (1,900). Year to date LCVs are up 9.1% (28,972). HGVs (Heavy Goods Vehicles) registrations are up 7.1% (166) in comparison to September 2023 (155). Year to date HGVs are up 10.8% (2,629). Imported Used Cars have seen a 18.2% (5,116) rise in September 2024, when compared to September 2023 (4,328). Year to date imports are up 24.5% (47,738) on 2023 (38,338). In September 1,010 new electric cars were registered, which was 30.8% lower than the 1,460 registrations in September 2023. So far this year, 16,133 new electric cars have been registered representing a 25.7% decrease compared to the same period in 2023 when 21,726 electric cars were registered. New car registrations for August were down 8.4% (7,567) when compared to August 2023 (8,261). Registrations year to date are down 0.9% (112,171) on the same period last year (113,199). Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) declined by 17.2% (1,698) compared to August last year (2,051). Year to date LCVs are up 9.3% (26,930). HGVs (Heavy Goods Vehicles) registrations are down 41.5% (172) in comparison to August 2023 (294). Year to date HGVs are up 11.2% (2,466). Imported Used Cars have seen a 18.5% (5,426) rise in August 2024, when compared to August 2023 (4,577). Year to date imports are up 25.3% (42,622) on 2023 (34,010). In August 1,259 new electric cars were registered, which was 29.3% lower than the 1,782 registrations in August 2023. So far this year, 15,129 new electric cars have been registered representing a 25.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2023 when 20,266 electric cars were registered. HGVs (Heavy Goods Vehicles) registrations are up 27.5% (477) in comparison to July 2023 (374). Year to date HGVs are up 19.5% (2,298). Imported Used Cars have seen a 32.2% (5,828) rise in July 2024, when compared to July 2023 (4,408). Year to date imports are up 26.4% (37,199) on 2023 (29,433). Read More 02nd July 2024 Toyota’s bZ4X – a name with a number Last Word First Let’s get bZ4X out of the way – below Zero, 4-wheel drive – welcome to Toyota’s all-electric Sports Utility Vehicle, crossover. Aside from its accumulation of letters surrounding a lone number, this is a substantial offering from Toyota, its street stance exuding a physically, sturdy persona, a weight of just under 2-tonnes confirming that is no pushover. Being a full EV, the bZ4X has a range of over 400 kilometres and akin to its competitors, all weigh in that realm of two metric tonnes – to achieve the range, you need the batteries and they weigh, lots. My week in the company of this Toyota EV was very pleasant, with no issues with comfort and operation. City driving and two country runs raised no red flags, the bZ4X, proving roomy for adult passengers and once charged overnight on my domestic wall-charger, removed any range anxiety throughout the week. Akin to most EV’s, the bZ4X cannot hide its central weight, speed humps always confirming that this is no svelte, light on its feet, road dancer. It is functional to drive, as distinct from ‘fun,’ the driver interchange missing the tactility of the lighter, more nimble, internal combustion engine’d vehicle, the bulk of batteries a continuous influence. This said and acknowledged, this all-electric Toyota offering offers space, a good degree of comfort, decent range, all enwrapped in Toyota’s legendary build quality, which will tick the boxes for many. I enjoyed my time with the bZ4X and it definitely deserves a place on your test drive list. New car registrations for April were down 3.6% (8,591) when compared to April 2023 (8,912). Registrations year to date are up 6.0% (71,110) on the same period last year (67,063). Light Commercial vehicles (LCVs) increased by 3.0% (2,212) compared to April last year (2,148). Year to date LCVs are up 29.0% (17,543). HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) registrations are up 37.2% (332) in comparison to April 2023 (242). Year to date HGVs are up 19.5% (1,442). Imported Used Cars have seen a 35.6% (5,206) rise in April 2024, when compared to April 2023 (3,838). Year to date imports are up 26.9% (20,694) on 2023 (16,311). In April 1,091 new electric cars were registered, which was 41.4% lower than the 1,863 registrations in April 2023. So far this year 9,028 new electric cars have been registered which is a 19.1% decrease compared to the same period in 2023 when 11,160 electric cars were registered. Light Commercial vehicles (LCVs) increased by 31.7% (4,410) compared to March last year (3,348). Year to date LCVs are up 34.1% (15,356). HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) registrations are up 28.2% (350) in comparison to March 2023 (273). Year to date HGVs are up 15.0% (1,110). Imported Used Cars have seen an 11.0% (5,216) rise in March 2024, when compared to March 2023 (4,698). Year to date imports are up 24.2% (15,487) on 2023 (12,473). In March 2,009 new electric cars were registered, which was 41.1% lower than the 3,412 registrations in March 2023. So far this year 7,971 new electric cars have been registered which is a 14.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2023 when 9,297 electric cars were registered. In February 1,866 new electric cars were registered, which was 15.5% lower than the 2,207 registrations in February 2023. So far this year 5,968 new electric cars have been registered which is a 1.4% increase compared to the same period in 2023 when 5,885 electric cars were registered. New car registrations for the month of January were up 15% (31,470) when compared to January 2023 (27,337). However, despite this growth, registrations remain 3% lower than pre-Covid levels in 2019. Light Commercial vehicles (LCV) are up 35.3% (7,500) compared to January last year (5,542). HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) registrations are also showing an increase of 7.8% (458) in comparison to January 2023 (425). Imported Used Cars seen a 40.7% (5,326) increase in January 2024, when compared to January 2023 (3,786). Electric Vehicle (EV) sales seen continued growth, with a record breaking 4,109 new electric vehicles registered for the month of January when compared to 3,674 in January 2023 (+12%).
