Many government agencies rely on older software which do not have public APIs for automation. This happens to be one of my specialties as older programs are easy to automate with AutoHotkey! As an automation specialist and the founder of the-Automator.com, I’m making it my mission to help the newly founded Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) improve the efficiencies of Government employees helping them work smarter, not harder. The Hidden Costs of Manual Processes Every day, government employees spend countless hours on repetitive tasks: Manually entering data across multiple systems Copy-pasting information between applications Navigating complex software interfaces Creating standardized reports and documents Processing routine requests and forms These manual processes not only slow down operations but also increase the likelihood of errors and reduce job satisfaction. The cost to taxpayers is significant, both in terms of reduced productivity and increased error correction. Automation: A Path to Better Government Service Through my experience implementing automation solutions, I’ve seen how the right tools can transform workflow efficiency: Reduced Processing Time: Tasks that once took hours can often be completed in minutes/seconds Enhanced Accuracy Automated processes eliminate common human errors in data entry and transcription Improved Employee Satisfaction: Staff can focus on meaningful work instead of repetitive tasks Better Public Service: Faster processing times mean better response rates for citizens Cost Savings: Increased efficiency leads to direct cost savings for taxpayers Reduced Physical Risk: Many repetitive tasks end up taking a toll on the people doing them. Automation let’s the humans “make decisions” and have the computers do what they do best (execute the process). A Customized Approach for Every Agency Whether you’re a small township office or a large federal department, every government entity has unique needs and challenges. I specialize in creating customized automation solutions that: Comply with all relevant security protocols and regulations Integrate seamlessly with existing systems Require minimal training time Show measurable results in productivity and accuracy Scale according to your agency’s needs My Commitment to Public Service As someone who has worked closely with government employees, I understand the unique challenges and constraints of public sector work. I’m committed to helping agencies: Identify opportunities for automation Develop custom solutions that meet specific needs Train staff effectively on new tools Measure and document efficiency improvements Achieve meaningful cost savings Ready to Improve Your Agency’s Efficiency? If you’re interested in exploring how automation can benefit your government agency, I’d love to help. November 14, 2024 November 14, 2024AutoHotKey Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, Elon Musk, government, Vivek Ramaswamy AutoHotkey Newsletter 2024-11-14- Giving Peter Drucker the Finger Howdy, The great management guru Peter Drucker cautioned against efficiency at the expense of effectiveness. It was, and is, a brilliant caution. However, with AutoHotkey, you can actually ignore Drucker’s caution Using AutoHotkey you can both improve efficiency and effectiveness in concert❗ To be fair, the world has changed since Drucker became famous. Sadly much of the world still trys to work harder, not smarter. With AutoHotkey you can realize that While time is linear; Success doesn’t have to be! When we decide to automate a process we are putting ideas into code. When done properly there is no limit as to the multiplier of how much more can be done! And done as many times as we like. Employees want coffee breaks, vacations, sick days and even (occasionally) want to sleep! Computers bring their “A-game” All-day; Every day❗ I’m not saying that computers can replace your employees. But they definitely can free them up to work on the things humans do best and let things we can “bottle-up and put in a program” left to computers to do. And with AI, it’s becoming easier and easier to automate the mundane! AI is a huge topic we frequently talk about during the Hero calls and our Private Telegram group. If you’re wanting to jump into AI, the AHK Hero group is a great place to get your feet wet! Now on with the show… Confirming Better Ways to use AI to Automate your PC than Screen Shots! This morning Irfan and I took ~10 minutes and conducted the following test: 1) We used the “dump all” method from the UIA class to build a “structure” of AHK toolkit. 2) We fed Claude Descolada’s UIA class, and the above structure, asking Claude to provide us AHK v2 code to activate the “HotStrings” tab. Claude took the data, pondered a bit, and provided AHK code which worked perfectly So our hopes are (somewhat) confirmed true. We don’t, necessarily, have to rely on Image search for AI to automate our computers! I can’t wait to repeat this with Controls, COM and a few other approaches. I cover some of the plans in the following video The future of Automating your PC Toggling Do Not Disturb The more I study successful people, the more I realize how important it is to carve yourself out time to focus. Blocking out “the noise” was the primary reasons I had Irfan create a tool to easily toggle Do Not Disturb mode. But, what I realized is, I’d rather just leave Do Not Disturb always on and just respond to client / friends / inquiries when I choose to. You can check out this video to learn more. How to easily Toggle Do Not Disturb in Windows 11 Improving People’s Lives: Story #25 A client’s tool people was letting people schedule automations. Unfortunately it didn’t, automatically, take into account the length of time the previous program would require which was forcing users to do “mental math” on times . I asked Irfan to change the scripts so it: check’s what was scheduled last “looks up” how long it typically takes Adjusts the proposed time to take that into account Now users will not need drain their brain trying to determine when the next item should be scheduled. We did built it in a way so people can still change the scheduled time so it is super-flexible. A spot of Humor: Hungry Hippo rules! My son, Jon, is in his senior year. They had a pep-rally the other day and all parents were invited. My wife, Cathy, and I went and both signed up to participate in games. Sadly they had too many parents want to participate so I wasn’t called but my wife was! Here’s a short video of Jon and Cathy competing on a “live version” of hungry hippo. Jon & Cathy playing Hungry Hippo What we utomated this week with AutoHotkey #63 This week I discussed 137 scripts we’ve worked on this week. The world of AI is continuing to explode and we touch on some of the current tools we’re building for clients in this week’s episode of what we automated with AutoHotkey. Yes, they might visit one or two forums / social groups, but they rarely talk to other AHK users. Isaias and I have been using AutoHotkey for a collective ~30 years and we still learn from each other everyday! This has more to do with how humans think than it does with being an expert. When we begin working on a project we’re constantly throwing ideas / approaches out as to which way we’ll solve a given problem. We know 19 ways to automate programs with AutoHotkey however that’s really not what I’m referring to here. This has more to do with clarifying the goal, understanding the target customer, and determining if we’re creating an easy to use solution for them. Having other people to bounce ideas off of, get pointed in the right direction and to have “experts” that truly know what they’re doing are the core reasons we created the AHK Hero group! We have 3 hours a week where we discuss ideas and approaches with our members. If members don’t have questions we start providing mini-lectures on how we’ve solved interesting problems with AutoHotkey. Of course our Private telegram group is available where people can ask questions during the week. Our AHK hero’s are a great group that help & learn from each other You really should join! I guarantee your automation skills & knowledge will really take off! I’ve removed most of the risk as the first month is a super-low price❗ If you’re “on the fence” about joining, here is a link to a lot of the “Objections” people come up with as why they don’t join. I highly recommend you check them out because, if you’re reading this, you really should be a member! Now on with the show… Automating your PC with Anthropic’s Computer Use Last Friday, before the normal AHK hero call, we invited AHK hero members to attend a special session where we showed how to download & configure the Docker image from Anthropic for running Computer Use. The session went well and showed the future of AI being able to automate your computer (granted, in this case the Docker image was a Linux environment but it’s a good start. We did the event as a “special session” so we could share it on with non-hero members. You can check it out here. Yesterday Isaias and I played with Claude’s computer vision class and tested to see if we could incorporate it with AutomateMyTask. Using AI to automate your Computer: How to Configure Docker & Computer Use from Anthropic Not surprisingly, we were able to feed it images and then ask AI where it found them. This is great because, in general, we stay away form image search as it is not reliable (especially across computers) however having AI do the search makes all the difference in the world. You can think of the AI as doing a “fuzzy match” on each computer Thus it will not be so error-prone. Good things to come of this that is for sure! The future of Automating your PC Continuing on form the previous discussion, in this video I outlined our overall goals as to what we want to create. Currently AI is sending keystrokes / mouse clicks. AI is basically imitating a human! We know of 19 ways to automate things and the current two it is using are, by far, the worst! The future of Automating your PC Texting from your Phone with Phone Link If you have an Android phone, Phone Link is a built-in way to easily connect your phone to Windows. I constantly send/read texts from my phone. A lot of people (me included) had issues with Phone Link. It took a lot of searching but I finally figured out how to fix it and Isaias and I made this video. From Frustration to Success: Watch How we Fixed Microsoft Phone Link❗ Improving People’s Lives: Story #24 Connie, an AHK hero member reached out to us asking for help using AI to perform OCR on newspaper clippings. Lucky for Connie we already had a tool that does 95% of what he wanted. So this morning I’m having Irfan add the typical “bells and whistles”. Things like: Let users select their trigger (Mouse click & Hotkey) Select your AI (Chat GPT or Claude) Select the Model Add their AI token If the data resembles a table, push it into a Listview Adjust the prompt that drives it We should have it out by time you read this.
